Socialist Candidates Confirmed!

The nominations are in, and we can now confirm that 12 candidates from the Trade Unionist And Socialist Coalition (all but one being Socialist Party members) will be standing in the elections to Birmingham City council on May 22nd. There will also be one standing for neighbouring Sandwell council. This will take place as part of the largest left-of-Labour challenge nationwide in the last 70 years, with over 600 candidates standing nationally. The policy platform of TUSC, which you can view here, includes a commitment to vote against all cuts to public services. This is unlike unlike the current New Labour leadership of Birmingham City Council, who plan to carry out cuts of £800m by 2018, rather than leading a campaign to win the money back from central government.

The list of TUSC candidates are as follows:

Acocks Green – Eamonn FLYNN

Bordesley Green – Theo SHARIEFF

Erdington – Joe FOSTER

Longbridge – Clive WALDER

Lozells & East Handsworth – Alistair WINGATE

Moseley & Kings Heath – Mike FRIEL

Quinton – Nick HART

Shard End – Ken MARKS

Sheldon – Mark ANDREWS

South Yardley – Siobhan FRIEL

Stockland Green – Ted WOODLEY

Tyburn – James REDFERN

Abbey (Sandwell) – Lynn WADDING

We’ll be running campaign stalls and canvassing from door to door ahead of May 22nd, with a particular focus on Acocks Green, Erdington and Stockland Green wards. Can you help deliver to a leaflet, or make a donation to the election campaign? For more details, get in touch via the ‘contact’ tab
